Rice And A Rainy Day

This idea comes courtesy of my sister-in-law, Rebecca (by way of the almighty Pinterest)...we took 4 cups white rice and mixed it with 3 tablespoons white vinegar in a big Ziploc bag.  Mila was more than happy to help.  Shake and add food coloring until the rice is the desired color (of course, MQ desired pink and orange, much like the dress she was wearing!)  Most instructions out there say to dry it in the sun, but since this was a rainy day activity we put it in the oven at 175 degrees for 20 minutes or so and it was dry.  We only had enough rice to make two colors, but Mommy saved them after Mila played happily with the colored rice and assorted utensils for quite a while (YES!) and will make some more next time rice is on sale.  The rice does not give off color, but unless you want to vacuum it up for the next month, we suggest putting down a sheet.

  1. Yay...glad she liked it! We haven't taken out in a while. The boys love it, but it can be a mess:)!
